When a group of DIDYMOS fans collaborate to create something special, the process and outcome are impressive. It all starts with an idea (we thank you Melyssa Sieber!), and source of inspiration and the leg-work of an enthusiastic babywearer, Elina Russell. The photo that inspired the colour palette was a photo snapped of the west coast mountain-scape, a view from Elina’s home. She clearly lives in a beautiful spot! The DIDYMOS Can-ADA, the inspiration was the beauty of Canadian nature. Canada’s diverse landscape has been the inspiration for creative work for many, and it continues here.
The image sparked the conversation the process, Canada West Coast…

I would say that the colours also appear on the East Coast!

A colour palette was then discussed….

And voted upon. The final decision for yarn seems to be a perfect math to the original photo. Amazing!

Big decisions needed to be made…
- Lengthwise or Widthwise Gradation??
- Single Blend or Tri-Blend?
- Hemp/Cotton or Hemp/Linen/Cotton?
And a mock-up was made by a clever, computer-savvy collaborator.
A width-wise gradation was decided which requires a very special, highly-skilled preparation of a custom warp. DIDYMOS was up for the challenge!
From there, the manufacturing began with the preparation of the warp drum.

The warp is then transferred to the warp beam and it is the warp beam that is brought to the loom.

At the loom, amazing things happen!

From the loom, CanADA was sent into that hands of excited wearers who eagerly and patiently awaited the arrival of their new wrap. And the snuggling began!
The final specs for the special DIDYMOS CanADA release are…
Farbric Weight: 280 g/m²
Blend: 60% organic cotton / 25% hemp / 15 % linen
We love seeing Bloom Shots, the plumping up of the fibres after a wrap’s first wash.

From Didymos’ side, it all starts with the sourcing of raw materials and preparing the colours. Learn more here…
