Up close and personal with Didymos Waves – the Ultimate Summer wrap!
Now that the warmer weather has finally arrived, I am being asked daily what my recommendation is for a summer wrap. There are so many great options with Didymos and almost all the wrap selections work in all seasons depending on the carry, size of the baby and what both the wearer and baby are dressed in. However, if I really try and narrow down the ultimate summer wrap from newborn to toddler, the forerunner in my mind from my own personal experience and observations as an educator is the Didymos Waves.
I remember when I started wrapping in 2008, waves was nick named the beach wrap. I had already quickly become a huge Didymos fan due to the quality and materials Didymos used in conjunction with their beautiful designs. I originally fell in love with the indio pattern which is also a very airy weave. However, once summer hit, I wanted to explore other options to add to my little wrap stash and when I heard of a beach wrap that resembled waves, I began to have visions of wrapping my son while strolling along a beach and then using as a blanket under the shade of the tree when we needed to rest. I had to try this beach wrap and when I did, it soon became one of my favourite wraps to wear with my little one!
Waves became such a favourite that it remained in my wrap collection throughout all seasons, into toddlerhood and I continued to use with my next son as well. When I wasn’t using the waves wrap, my toddler claimed it as his favourite play item to race his cars along. The waves were his tracks!
Waves is a jacquard weave that is woven on a jacquard loom. Jacquard weaves are more labour intensive to create but the result is beautiful and intricate patterns and designs. Waves is one of Didymos’s classic jacquard patterns and is part of their standard line. Each colour way is a tri-colour weave where the combinations of warp and weft colours create a stunning wave pattern in different shades. The pattern is inverted on the opposite side and therefore has a right and wrong side. Depending on the colours being used in the pattern, the right and wrong sides can be incredibly similar yet different which is very appealing when wearing as a woven baby wrap for both fashion and ease of use. The standard colours available are Aqua, Silver, Garnet, Elder and Lime.

Woven fabric with a jacquard weave is generally stronger and more resilient than fabric woven with a basic weave and can easily support a newborn to toddler. The waves in particular is a beautifully soft and cushy fabric straight out of the box. Once washed and worn, the fabric just gets softer and floppier. It is the ideal fabric to wrap any baby or child in! Waves has the perfect amount of diagonal stretch in its pattern which makes wrapping very easy as the fabric stretches and tightens with minimal effort. The way this weave stretches allows the fabric to mold just perfectly to the wearer and baby. The pattern is a light and airy weave which makes it perfect for summer wearing. The airy weave allows the air to circulate and the lightness of the wrap at 200 g/m2 is not overbearing or bulky in the warmer weather, yet the sturdiness of the weave, supports the weight of toddlers and beyond. The cush of the fabric is like wrapping with a light airy cloud and provides the ultimate comfort for the wearer. Soft and cozy for the baby and heaven on the shoulders for the wearer! Last but not least, the waves pattern is just simply gorgeous!
